AUSTIN, TEXAS (Feb. 8, 2019) – A weekend that was supposed to consist of a four-game series against Sterling College was cancelled because of weather conditions. The Saints scheduled a doubleheader in Austin against Huston-Tillotson University to compensate; however, even that doubleheader had to turn into a single game because of temperatures in the 30s complete with sleet and windy conditions. With all that being said, the Saints defeated the Rams 4-2 to move to 3-5 overall, while the Rams drop to 2-3 overall.
Head Coach Bryan Aughney said, "Obviously weather played an impact on both teams as it was sleeting on and off and 37 degrees, but regardless, we had to go play. Wasn't our best offensive showing, but we did enough to get the W. Pitching was able to get outs and do enough to pick up a W."

The basics
The Rams got on the board in the first inning. Christian Price single to left, and Jorge Lopez came home to put his team up 1-0.
The Saints scored all of their runs in the second inning. Boedy Flores (FR/Harlingen, Texas) reached first, and Bryce Putnam (FR/Baytown, Texas)e walked. Andrew Ogletree (SO/Mission, Texas) came in to run for Putnam. Matthew Klar (FR/San Antonio, Texas) got to base on an error by the Rams. Xavier Solis (JR/Victoria, Texas) hit into a fielder's choice, and Flores was able to score. A passed ball from Brandon Aquino sent Klar home. Alec Martinez (SO/Corpus Christi, Texas) singled to left, sending Solis home. The Saints took the 4-1 lead.
In the sixth inning, HTU scored a run. A wild pitch from Saints pitcher Triston Scherer (SO/Crosby, Texas) gave Daniel Ovalle the opportunity to come home.
No other runs were scored and the Saints won 4-2.
Alec Martinez led the Saints going 2-4 and adding two RBIs. Xavier Solis went 1-4 and added one run and one RBI.
Christian Price led the Rams going 2-4, adding one RBI.
Aaron Gonzalez (JR/Houston, Texas) earned the win after pitching four innings, striking out five. Triston Scherer pitched three innings, and Brett Vasquez (FR/Baytown, Texas) pitched the last inning to get the save.
Todd DeLeon suffered the loss for the Rams.

The Saints will return to the field on Friday and Saturday when they host Oklahoma Panhandle State University.
