SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 30, 2020) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team won its fifth straight Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) game 120-74 against Paul Quinn College (PQC) on Friday. The Saints move to 17-5 overall and 9-1 in conference, while the Tigers fall to 9-12 overall and 7-3 in conference.
This is the 20th meeting between the teams and the Saints lead the series 18-1.
The Saints forced 11 turnovers in the first quarter, while shooting 55 percent from the field. Kasey Saldana (SR/San Antonio, Texas) led the way with 12 points and four rebounds. The Tigers kept the game close by pulling within eight points of the Saints at halftime. Saldana led all scorers with 21 points at the half.
The Saints came out firing on all cylinders by scoring a record 42 points in the third quarter. OLLU also shot 47.6 percent from the field. OLLU maintained their momentum going into the fourth quarter by shooting 51 percent from the field. OLLU forced 35 turnovers against the Tigers, propelling the team to a 120-74 win.
Saldana led the Saints in scoring with 38 points and seven rebounds, giving her the new women's single game scoring record. Lena Wilson (SR/Converse, Texas) added 26 points of her own along with a team leading six assists. Alexis White (SO/Houston, Texas) added seven rebounds.
PQC was led by Raven Ringo with 27 points. Alexus Sharkley led the team with five rebounds. Johnesha Wilson contributed a team high three assists.
Inside the box
OLLU combined for 43-of-84 shooting for 51.2 percent, 8-of-20 from three-point range for 40 percent and 26-of-29 from the free-throw line for 89.7 percent. PQC shot 29-of-66 for 43.9 percent, 6-of-17 three pointers for 35.3 percent and 10-of-17 from the free-throw line for 58.8 percent.
OLLU collected 47 rebounds while the Tigers tallied 36. OLLU forced 35 turnovers and committed 17.
The Saints play University of the Southwest at home on Feb. 1 at 2 p.m.
