SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 15, 2020) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball team fell in both games to Sul Ross State University (SRSU) in the first home games of the spring season. Sul Ross State took game one 8-4 and game two 4-1 in eight innings. The Saints are 4-6 on the season and 0-0 in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play.
Head Coach Bruce Lenington said, "It was great to finally play at home. The energy and atmosphere were electric. You've got to tip your hat to Sul Ross State. They deserved to win both games. I'm very proud of Felicity Villanueva (FR/El Paso, Texas). She threw a great game in game two."
Game One
The Lobos took an early lead in game one. They scored two runs in the top of the first inning after an error by Jennifer Estrada (SO/El Paso, Texas) and a double by Payslee Sims.
Sul Ross State added two more runs in the top of the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. The Saints responded in the bottom of the second inning after Estrada doubled.
The Lobos led 5-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. Ariel Montgomery (SO/San Antonio, Texas) hit a home run for the Saints to cut the lead to 5-3. Estrada hit another double to score Clarissa Santos (JR/San Antonio, Texas).
With a 5-4 lead in the top of the sixth inning, the Lobos started to take control of the game. They plated two runs in the inning and another run in the seventh inning to win 8-4.
Starting pitcher Ciera Martinez (JR/San Antonio, Texas) allowed three runs in two innings of work for the Saints. Kelly Anne Salinas (FR/Laredo, Texas) pitched the remaining five innings and allowed 11 hits. The Lobos took game one 8-4.
Game Two
It was a pitcher's duel in game two of the doubleheader. The Lobos scored the first run of the game in the top of the seventh inning after Abbie Alvarado hit a double with two outs.
The Saints responded with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the game to extra innings. Jennifer Estrada hit a double to score Clarissa Santos.
The Lobos plated three runs in the top of the eighth inning and won 4-1. Felicity Villanueva allowed four runs in seven and two-thirds innings.
