KANSAS CITY, MO. (March 12, 2020) – The NAIA announced earler today that effective immediately, it will be cancelling all remaining winter championship events, including the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Championship Tournament, for which the Our Lady of the Lake University team qualified.
The health and safety of the NAIA's student-athletes, as well as all involved in its championship events, is the NAIA's highest priority. NAIA officials will continue to monitor COVID-19 developments and NAIA leadership will work closely with its member institutions to determine the best path forward for future NAIA events, including all spring 2020 championships.
The Saints qualified for their ninth consecutive tournament with an At-Large bid. OLLU congratulates them on a highly successful season that included the Red River Athletic Conference regular season title and a runners-up finish in the conference tournament.
The Saints finished the season with a 26-6 overall record and 17-1 in conference. The university is proud of the women's accomplishments, which included earning the NAIA's top statistical ranking in scoring offense, scoring margin, turnover margin, field goal percentage and free-throw percentage.
OLLU congratulates Head Coach Stacy Stephens, seniors Kasey Saldana, Lena Wilson, Jamia Miller and Irma Jean Ealy and the rest of the Saints for their contributions to the team and the university. OLLU looks forward to the 2020-2021 season.
The university would also like to recognize other Red River Athletic Conference teams that qualified for this year's championship tournaments - LSU-Shreveport men and women and LSU-Alexandria men.
