SPECIAL FEATURE ON SENIORS (March 22, 2020) – Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) senior Matt Mihalov brought experience and a leadership mentality to the Saints baseball team this season. He received his undergraduate degree last season and is in his first year as a graduate student at OLLU.
Mihalov was hitting an impressive .315 at the plate before the season ended abruptly. He tallied 23 hits in 25 games, which is second-best on the team. His consistent approach at the plate resulted in a .398 on-base percentage this season.
MIhalov's career stats include 152 games, 405 at-bats, 67 runs, 108 hits, 12 doubles, six triples, 44 RBIs, 132 total bases, 44 walks and 27 stolen bases. His career slugging percentage is .326, batting average is .267 and on-base percentage is .346. As a right fielder, Mihalov has had just three errors in four years for a fielding percentage of .985. His last error was in 2018 after recording none last year and none this year.
He also excelled in the classroom as a Red River Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete.
When asked about the sudden end to the season, Mihalov said, "I would tell my teammates to never take this game for granted because you never know when it will end. It's nothing but adversity and we'll know how to overcome this situation."
Mihalov's hobbies include working out, hunting, fishing and running with his teammates. His athletic role model is Houston Astros player Alex Bregman.
