SPECIAL FEATURE ON SENIORS (March 30, 2020) – Our Lady of the Lake University's (OLLU) Kane Ybarra has gathered an impressive list of academic and athletic honors while at OLLU.

Some of his accomplishments include being named conference freshman of the year, conference golfer of the year and conference scholar-athlete. He is first in Saints history with making par or better in 14 rounds.

Ybarra led the team by shooting a total of 236 at the San Antonio Shootout in February. His best result this year was a fourth-place finish at the UHV Fall Classic in September.

In his first golf tournament as a freshman, Ybarra shot a 220 total in three rounds at the Texas Intercollegiate Golf Classic to propel the Saints to a second-place finish.

Ybarra has competed in three NAIA National Championship tournaments. He shot a total of 319 in four rounds his freshman season, 235 in three rounds as a sophomore and 158 in two rounds as a junior.

Ybarra reflected on his time at OLLU, "The unexpected end to this season is unfortunate, but as the last few weeks have shown, there are more pressing issues in the world. Since my freshman year at OLLU, I have had the pleasure of playing with many great guys. From my freshman to junior year at OLLU, the golf team was able to represent our school at the national championship. It is unfortunate that we will not have the opportunity to repeat that this year. However, I am truly grateful for the friendships and memories I was able to obtain throughout my four years. Michael Jordan once said, 'Love is playing every game as if it's your last.' Although I may have played my last tournament as a Saint, I hope this is just the beginning of another chapter in my golf career."

Ybarra's hobbies are thrifting, hanging out with friends and playing poker. His athletic role model is professional poker player Tom Dwan.
