SAN ANTONIO (March 31, 2020) – Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball's Joey Baker was a reliable relief pitcher for the Saints during his four years at OLLU.
The bulk of Baker's relief appearances came last season. In 41 innings he struck out 31 batters and allowed 14 earned runs. He tallied a 3.05 ERA and held opponents to a .273 batting average.
Baker appeared in eight games this season and struck out two batters in seven innings. He allowed only one walk in the eight games and left NAIA ranked Central Methodist University (CMU) hitless on Feb. 1.
Baker shared the first no-hitter in OLLU history with Logan Garza against CMU in 2019. He was awarded Red River Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week during the same season.
Baker said, "Never take the game for granted because you never know when it's going to come to an end."
Baker's hobby is playing baseball and his athletic role model is former MLB star who played with the New York Yankees, among other teams, Ichiro Suzuki.
