SAN ANTONIO (July 7, 2020) – Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) held its inaugural competitive cheer and dance team signing day earlier this month.
Head Coach Crystal Brock commented, "We had 13 athletes sign on June 13 at our signing day committing to our OLLU Saints Spirit Family. Each student-athlete is eager to begin working on creating a legacy of which OLLU faculty, staff and alumni will be proud. Each athlete has a passion to motivate and represent Saints athletics with dignity, class and sportsmanship."
Among the 13 who signed was junior Melanie Padron. The San Antonio native will join the Competitive Cheer team. She attended Travis Early College High School. She was a National Cheerleading Association All-American nominee, a member of the National Honor Society and earned her high school diploma with summa cum laude honors.
Padron has earned the Dean's Merit Scholarship, Endowment Scholarship and Wings Up Grant while at OLLU. She also was a Dean's List recipient. Last year, she was a member of the Saints Cheer club team.
Her hobbies are traveling, yoga and going to concerts. Padron's athletic role model is Gabby Douglas and her favorite motto is "I don't want to be bare minimum. I want to be successful."
(Profiles of others who were signed will be posted daily.)
