SAN ANTONIO (March 30, 2021) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team lost 8-3 to NCAA D2 St. Mary's University (StMU) on Tuesday. The Saints drop to 20-10 overall and remain 8-0 in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play. OLLU is an impressive 16-3 this month.
Head Coach Bryan Aughney commented, "We missed a few plays defensively that led to some runs. We walked a few guys that came back to hurt us. When you don't play clean baseball good teams will take advantage of that. The message after the game was getting back to playing clean baseball. Baseball is a game that will humble you real fast if you start taking things for granted. I like our energy and where we are at. We are excited to get on the road and get back to conference play this weekend."
History
St. Mary's leads the all-time series 8-2 over the Saints and have won the previous five matchups.
Basics
The Rattlers led 2-0 after three innings. Jacob Mitchell (JR/Harker Heights, Texas ) cut the lead in half with a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning. The Saints momentum didn't last for long, and the Rattlers put up four runs in the bottom of the inning.
St. Mary's added two more runs to lead 8-1. OLLU crossed the plate twice in the ninth inning but it wasn't enough as the Rattlers held on to win 8-3. The Saints were held to five hits and committed two errors. The Saints featured seven pitchers and they combined to allow nine hits.
