MOBILE, ALA. (Sept. 11, 2021) – Freshman Kaylyn Morales dominated play for Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) as she scored all three goals against the University of Mobile. With the Rams scoring one goal, the Saints won 3-1 to move to 3-2 on the season while Mobile remains winless with a 0-5-1 record.
Head Coach Arthur Salazar commented, "The team showed a lot of fight and discipline after going down 1-0. We were able to change the dynamic of the game by making some tactical adjustments and after a frantic first 20 minutes, the team settled into a good tempo and were able to find a way back. This was a rough trip against two good teams, so to come away 1-1 is a good platform to keep building from."
History
This is the first matchup between the two NAIA teams.
Basics
The game started with the Rams dominating as they kept the action on their side of the field. The women shot three, two on goal through the first 13 minutes of the match. After a foul from OLLU, the Rams followed with the first goal of the match by Mia Mugford.
The Saints were able to move the action back to their side and propelled three straight shots by Sarah Miles, Dawson Brinkley and Jaylin Seto. Seto sneaked another shot in, but it went high, as did Madison Herrera's attempt. A shot from Mobile was blocked, and the Saints dribbled the ball to their side. With a little less than two minutes left in the first half, Morales scored her first goal with an assist by Kaelyn Carnahan.
Nine minutes into the second half, Morales scored a goal off a pass from Herrera to push the Saints to a 2-1 lead. A little less than three minutes later, Morales connected again for an unassisted goal to secure the hat trick.
The game continued for 11 minutes before any team made a shot. This was from Brinkley whose shot was saved by Mobile's goalkeeper. Mobile's Sophie Walsh attempted a shot that went high.
Two straight fouls from Mobile gave OLLU's Ez Valles the chance to shoot, but her attempt went wide.
After a yellow card on OLLU's Herrera, Morales and Haley Smith both made shots that were saved by the Mobile goalkeeper. The game ended shortly thereafter to give the Saints the 3-1 win.
