SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 9, 2021) – After two overtime periods, the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's soccer tied with Paul Quinn College (PQC) this afternoon at 1-1. The Saints move to 4-4-2 overall and 3-1-2 in the Red River Athletic Conference, while PQC is now 4-2-3 overall and 2-1-3 in the conference.
The Saints are 3-1-1 against the Tigers. In 2019, the Saints lost 1-3.
Paul Quinn got two shots off right at the beginning of the game, both saved by Saints goalie Joseph Baker (JR/Llantwit Major, Wales, U.K.). The Saints followed with a wide shot from Kevin Rios (JR/Houston, Texas) and a shot on goal from Said Salas (FR/El Paso, Texas). The teams played equally on either side of the field. After a header shot from Juan Martin Chica (SR/Cali, Colombia) went wide, Javier Pena (JR/San Antonio, Texas) was shown a yellow card for rough play. OLLU's Kevin Rios got one of his own at the 25th minute. The Saints finally got on the board at the 38th minute on a shot from Chica from a pass by Thomas Sauceda (FR/Los Fresnos, Texas) near the net. The teams went into halftime with the Saints leading 1-0.
Paul Quinn's David Sorto scored the equalizer in the 69th minute unassisted. After aggressive play from both teams, neither could find the back of the net in two overtime periods.
