SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 21, 2021) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's soccer team defeated University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) 1-0 on Thursday. The Saints improve to 7-4-2 overall and 6-1-2 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). UHV drops to 11-2-1 overall and 8-1 in conference. The Jaguars hadn't lost a regular season conference match since the 2018-2019 season.
The Saints are 7-7-2 against UHV in the all-time series.
The Saints picked up the biggest win of the season on Thursday. Said Salas (FR/El Paso, Texas) scored what would become the game-winning goal in the 19th minute on a feed from Kevin Rios (JR/Houston, Texas). Salas beat UHV's goalkeeper on the left side of the net. The Jaguars tallied five more shots than the Saints in the first half and took one corner kick. Saints goalkeeper Joseph Baker (JR/Llantwit Major, Wales, U.K.) was forced to make two saves.
The second half was chippy on both sides. Both programs also took plenty of shots and had opportunities. Two yellow cards were shown in the second half. UHV's Randy Nunez was carded in the 61st minute and OLLU's Connor Bagley (JR/Norwich, Norfolk, U.K.) was booked at the 87th mark. The Saints took six shots in the second half while the Jaguars had five. The Saints showed more consistency on offense with seven corner kick opportunities. There was only one shot in the final 15 minutes, and the Saints held on for the 1-0 victory.

The Saints had eight shots while the Jaguars took 12. OLLU took seven corner kicks and UHV had four.
Juan Martin Chica (SR/Cali, Colombia) led the Saints with three shots on goal. Adrian Rodriguez had a team-high two shots on goal for the Jaguars. Baker made six saves in a shutout win for the Saints.
The Saints face Huston-Tillotson University on the road on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
