TEXARKANA, TEXAS (Nov. 11, 2021) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's soccer team defeated University of the Southwest (USW) 4-0 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Tournament semifinals on Thursday. The No. 3 Saints will play in the championship match on Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. against No. 1 Louisiana Christian University (LCU).
Head Coach Arthur Salazar commented, "I'm very proud of the team's performance today. We fought hard against a very competitive Southwest team. After making a few adjustments at halftime, they came out and executed well, resulting in two early second half goals that really changed the dynamic of the match. We will rest and shift our focus to the final."
The Saints have dominated the all-time series at 18-2 prior to this match.
The Saints advance to the RRAC Championship match for the second time in three seasons. Ez Valles (SO/El Paso, Texas) opened the scoring against Southwest in the 17th minute with help from the Saints all-time assist leader Jaylin Seto (SR/Houston, Texas). The Saints were outshot in the first half but managed to hold the 1-0 lead into halftime. Goaltender Samantha Valadez (FR/Kingwood, Texas) was forced to make three saves.
Valles came out firing again just one minute into the second half with another goal. Kyleigh Spree-Kolos (SO/Victoria, Texas) picked up the assist, and four minutes later scored to give the Saints a 3-0 advantage. Spree-Kolos' shot was initially blocked by the goaltender, but she regained possession and put it in the back of the net. Spree-Kolos struck her second goal of the match seven minutes later with an assist from Madison Herrera (JR/Helotes, Texas). The Saints won 4-0 and look to hoist the trophy on Saturday as they take on LCU.
