HELENA, MONT. (Nov. 17, 2021) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team lost to No. 5-ranked Carroll College (CC) 85-60 on Wednesday. The Saints fall to 4-1 overall and Carroll continues their undefeated season at 8-0.
Head Coach Chris Dial commented, "I'm disappointed in the product we put on the floor tonight. We have a short turnaround time and must shift focus to the next opponent. We have a lot to learn from this."
The series history was tied 1-1 prior to the game.
The Saints never led in a tough game against a streaking Carroll team. OLLU struggled by shooting 34.6 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from the free-throw line in the first half. Ellis Jones (JR/Houston, Texas) led the team with 12 points and four steals. Carroll led 48-28 at halftime behind 22-of-34 shooting from the field and 22 rebounds.
OLLU found its groove in the second half by shooting 50 percent from the field. Carroll's size proved to be too much as they totaled four blocks and nine offensive rebounds. Jones and Tommie Law (FR/Semmes, Ala.) finished with double-digit scoring for the Saints. Despite being outscored by only five points in the second half, OLLU lost 85-60.
Jones led the Saints with 12 points, followed by Law with 10. Ruben Monzon (SR/San Diego, Calif.) tallied a team-high five rebounds. Georges Darwiche (SR/Bucharest, Romania) led the Saints with three assists.
Brendan Temple led Carroll with 17 points. Jovan Sljivancanin grabbed 10 rebounds along with 16 points for a double-double. Sljivancanin and Andrew Cook led the team with five assists each.
Inside the box
OLLU combined for 22-of-52 shooting for 42.3 percent, 4-of-14 from three-point range for 28.6 percent and 12-of-22 from the free-throw line for 54.5 percent. Carroll College shot 35-of-63 for 55.6 percent, 5-of-15 three pointers for 33.3 percent and 10-of-15 from the free-throw line for 66.7 percent.
The Saints grabbed 23 rebounds while Carroll collected 39. OLLU forced 12 turnovers and committed 15.
The Saints head to Great Falls, Mont., to face University of Providence on Nov. 19 at 6 p.m.
