SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 10, 2022) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team lost to LSU-Shreveport (LSUS) 86-87 on Thursday night. The Saints fall to 7-13 overall and 2-8 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Pilots improve to 16-7 overall and 9-2 in the conference.
History
The Saints were 10-13 against the Pilots prior to this game.
Basics
The first half was evenly played between both programs. The Saints shot 43.8 percent from the field while the Pilots shot 40 percent. LSUS shot only 59.1 percent from the free-throw line and turned the ball over eight times. The Pilots outrebounded the Saints by six, but the Saints tallied six steals. The teams headed to the locker room after 20 minutes tied 44-44.
There were multiple lead changes in the second half. LSU-Shreveport held a lead late in the game until just under two minutes when Ruben Monzon tied the game with a layup. The Pilots hit a pair of free throws and led by three points shortly after. Monzon came up big again with a three-point shot with just under one minute left. The Saints led by one point with 15 seconds remaining when Jeff Boyd hit a jumper to put the Pilots up by one point. Joseph Anderson missed a three-point shot with time expiring and the Pilots held on for a one-point win.
Offensive/defensive standouts
Anderson led the Saints with 22 points. Jordan Embry grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and added 15 points for a double-double. Anderson led OLLU with four assists.
LSUS was led by Leondre Washington with 27 points. Akeem White and Trey Johnson had a team-high seven rebounds each. Boyd tallied a team-high four assists.
Inside the box
OLLU combined for 27-of-67 shooting for 40.3 percent, 5-of-22 from three-point range for 22.7 percent and 27-of-40 from the free-throw line for 67.5 percent.
LSUS combined for 30-of-66 from the field for 45.5 percent, 5-of-24 three-pointers for 20.8 percent and 22-of-31 from the charity stripe for 71 percent.
The Saints grabbed 47 rebounds while the Pilots gathered 40. OLLU forced 12 turnovers and committed 15.
