
AUSTIN, TEXAS (March 29, 2022) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's golf team took second place out of five teams at the Linda Lowery Invitational on Sunday and Monday. The Saints shot a total of 307 in round one, 304 in round two and 303 in round three to finish at 914.
Head Coach Arnie Martinez commented, "This was a challenging tournament. The winds were up, and the course was tough. We were having difficulty getting into a groove, but they stayed in it and grinded. We had some individuals play well. Raul Gonzalez (SO/McAllen, Texas) placed third with a total of 225. I'm proud of how he played. We are looking forward to the break before the conference tournament. We know what we must work on, and we are going to make sure to prepare for the contest. Go, Saints!"
The first two rounds were played on Sunday. University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) was in first place with a total of 593 (300/293). OLLU followed in second place at 611 (307/304). Texas A&M University-San Antonio (TAMUSA) was in third place at 637 (321/316), followed by Baker University (BU) at 650 (332/318) and Ottawa University (OU) at 672 (334/338).
Oliver Gaisford (FR/Canterbury, U.K.) led the Saints in fourth place after the first day at 151 (80/71). Sergio Garcia (JR/Kenedy, Texas) followed in fifth place at 152 (76/76). Gonzalez (74/82) and Daniel Jones (SR/Comfort, Texas) (77/79) were tied for ninth place at 156. Massimo Garcia (JR/Laredo, Texas) sat in 13th place at 160 (82/78) and Josh Brook (FR/Bournemouth, U.K.) was in 28th place at 179 (93/86).
OLLU remained in second place after the final round to finish with a total of 914. UHV took first place at 889. TAMUSA and BU finished tied for third place at 967. OU completed the tournament in fifth place at 1005. Gonzalez completed play with a total of 225 for third place. Gaisford followed in seventh place at 231, followed by Massimo Garcia and Sergio Garcia tied for 10th with a total of 234. Jones took 12th place at 236 and Brook finished in 25th place at 264.
