

HOBBS, N.M. (Oct. 3, 2011) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's soccer team improved to 5-3-1 and 3-0 in conference play after a 4-1 win over the University of the Southwest (USW) in Hobbs, N.M. last Saturday.
The game scheduled for Thursday last week against Texas Wesleyan University was postponed due to rain. Team coaches will meet soon to schedule a make-up date.
Steven Salinas continued his great goal-scoring form only 13 minutes into the match putting the Saints up 1-0. Salinas has now scored four goals in the last three games for OLLU.
The Saints found a second goal in as many minutes when Gerardo Marquez scored on an assist by Aaron Guerrero in the 15th minute, which gave OLLU a 2-0 lead at the half.
Things only got worse for the Mustangs after the restart conceding two more goals. Oscar Valencia scored in the 59th minute and Marcelo Chapa in the 74th minute. Luis Flores and Robert Alexe were credited with the assists.
The Mustangs were able to get on the score sheet in the 85th minute courtesy of Eduardo Monarrez.
OLLU outshot USW 17 to nine. Nick Garza recorded three saves and substitute goalkeeper Marco Herrera recorded one.
The Saints return home for the next two conference matches against Bacone College and Texas College Oct. 6 and 8. The Saints' first tailgate party of the season will take place during the Oct.6 game. Free raspas and hot dogs will be available for all fans beginning at 1 p.m. when the Lady Saints begin their game.
