SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 6, 2012)—Arlene Cisneros (pictured bottom right) and Jasmine Fuller's combined 28 points led the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team in its win against the University of St. Thomas (UST) 97-49 in a conference game Saturday afternoon at Mabee Gymnasium.
The win puts the Saints overall record at 17-5 and 12-4 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The women currently sit at third place in the RRAC, ½ game behind second-place Langston University (21-2/15-2), and three games behind league-leader LSU-Shreveport (18-5/15-1).
The Lady Celts put the first points of the game on the board, and a layup by Alisha Crump tied the score at two. UST put up another two on their end of the court, but Crump came back to score another two for the Saints. As the Celts attempted to return the ball, pressure from the Saints forced a turnover as Nashae Owens stole the ball and passed to Fuller, who added another two for the Saints.
UST hung with the Saints for the first few minutes of the game, but with the Saints up by one point 11-10, they went on a 22-0 run that left the Lady Celts in the dust. UST finally broke the Saints run and tried to narrow the Saints lead, but the Saints continued to score. The Saints went into the locker room ahead by 34 points, 55-21.
The second half brought much of the same as the Saints continued to increase their lead over the Lady Celts by as much as 50 points. The final buzzer found the Saints on top by 48 points, 97-49.
The Saints shot 45 percent of their field goals, made 28 percent of their 3-pointers, and shot 52 percent of their free throws. The Saints committed 14 turnovers, but forced the Lady Celts to turn the ball over 37 times.
Cisneros and Fuller led in scoring with 15 and 13 points respectively, followed by Jennifer Davison, Ali Bills (pictured at left) and Owens, who each contributed 11 points. Crump added 10 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
The Lady Celts' Gabby Guzman finished with nine points.
The Saints' next game will be Monday, Feb. 6, against Huston-Tillotson University. Earlier this season, the Saints beat the Rams 74-70. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Mabee Gymnasium.
