OLLU Baseball Ready For 2024 RRAC Championships in Louisiana

SAN ANTONIO (May 1, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team is set to compete in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Championship Tournament from May 1-5 in Sterlington, La. LSU-Shreveport (LSUS) will host the event at the Sterlington Sports Complex.

The Saints are the No. 6 seed in the tournament.

Head Coach Matt Piker commented, "We are excited for the tournament. The brotherhood has encountered adversity all season, but we are grateful for those experiences. I am proud that our team stayed unified and persevered through several rough patches. We talk internally about our expectations and goals for this weekend. What I will say, is this, we expect to fight like crazy and compete. Whatever else happens, happens."

The tournament, which was set to begin on May 2 but moved to May 1 because of weather conditions in Louisiana, will start with No. 4 LSUA vs. No. 5 LCU at 5 p.m. No. 6 OLLU will battle No. 3 UHV also at 5 p.m. The full schedule is listed below:

Conference results for OLLU

The Saints will play UHV first in the tournament. This season, the Saints defeated the Jaguars 6-0, 5-1 and lost 4-9 in the series at home. The two teams also played one nonconference game at home and lost 7-9 and in Victoria and won 10-3. Other results for OLLU in conference games this season include:

OLLU season overview, leaders

The Saints earned the sixth seed in the tournament after going 27-22. In the RRAC, OLLU is first in triples with 23; first in innings pitched with 377.1; first in putouts with 1,130; first in assists with 438; second in pitching appearances with 49; third in ERA with .396;  third in the conference in at bats with 1,422; fourth in strikeouts with 322; and sixth in stolen bases with 61.

Caimyn Holiday and Jack Kalisky have played the second most games in a season in the RRAC with 49. Brandon Betancourt has the fourth most walks with 29. Holiday has the most triples with eight (second in the NAIA) and the second most assists with 131 (seventh in the NAIA). Devin Benavides has the most games started with 15 (second in the NAIA), the second most innings pitched with 82.0 and the second best ERA with 2.52. Noah De La Riva is third in ERA at 2.67.

Criztian Delgado leads the team in fielding percentage at .988. Holiday leads in runs (45), stolen bases (15),  Kalisky leads in hits (55), home runs (7) and RBIs (40)

The following have batting averages above .300: Vincent Banda - .333, D'Artagnan Perez-Padron - .324, Kalisky - .322 and Diego Zuniga - .316.

Holiday broke the OLLU career record in triples (11) and the season record (8), and Chase Dunn broke the OLLU season record in appearances with 26.
