Betancourt, Delgado and Dunn Named NAIA Scholar Athletes

KANSAS CITY, MO. (May 23, 2024) - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the 2024 Daktronics NAIA Baseball Scholar-Athletes on Thursday. Three athletes from the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball program were named to the team.

The four winners are Brandon Betancourt, Criztian Delgado and Chase Dunn 

The 2024 list features over 1,300 student-athletes from 165 teams who achieved at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at their institution. To be nominated by an institution's sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale; appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport, and have attended one full year at said institution. 

Brandon Betancourt received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems and Security and is pursuing a Master of Science in Cybersecurity. He has been a part of the team since 2021. In 2022, he was selected as the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Freshman of the Year. He has been a RRAC Scholar-Athlete for three years in a row. This season, he played in 51 games and accumulated 38 runs, 31 hits, five doubles, 18 RBIs, 33 walks and 11 stolen bases. He had just one error this season. Betancourt marked at GPA of 3.79.

Criztian Delgado is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a specialization in Exercise Science. He is an RRAC Scholar-Athlete. Delgado played in 40 games this year and had 18 runs, 21 hits, three doubles, two home runs, 10 RBIs, 22 walks and three stolen bases. His fielding percentage is .989 and he turned 10 double plays.  Delgado marked a GPA of 3.75.

Chase Dunn received his Bachelor of Business Arts in Management this past May. He is a two-time RRAC Scholar-Athlete and this year, he earned RRAC All-Conference Second Team honors. Dunn had 29 appearances on the mound and his record was 4-2 with one save. He pitched 50.0 innings as a reliever, adding 35 strikeouts. Dunn earned a GPA of 3.85.
