SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Our Lady of the Lake (OLLU) baseball team made the short trip down Culebra to take on the St. Mary's Rattlers on Tuesday night. Despite wet and chilly conditions, the Saints managed to scored 10 runs on nine hits.

OLLU carried a 10-7 lead into the eighth inning, but the Rattlers plated three runs in the frame to even things up at 10. Three walks and a hit-by-pitch for St. Mary's in the bottom of the ninth inning resulted in an 11-10 loss for the Saints.

Notable

  • Freshman Drew Saucedo recorded three hits in six plate appearances, scoring three runs.
  • Ben Hovda scored three times and drove in two runs.
  • Gavin Machado finished with two hits and three RBI.
  • Alex Rodriguez reached base three times with two walks and a hit-by-pitch. Rodriguez scored twice in the loss.
  • OLLU drew a season-high 11 walks.
  • Noah De La Riva tossed 1.2 innings in relief and allowed just one hit.

How it Happened

  • Gavin Machado got the Saints on the board as he recorded his third triple in as many games, plating Hovda and Saucedo in the first inning.
  • The Rattlers tied the game in the bottom of the first.
  • Jack Kalisky and Vincent Banda each drove in runs in the second inning to put OLLU back in front.
  • StMU scored a run in the third and the fourth to even the game at four.
  • Brett Atkinson reached on a two-out single in the fifth and moved into scoring position via a wild pitch. Atkinson scored on a StMU error, giving OLLU the 5-4 lead.
  • Saucedo reached on an error to lead off the sixth and came around to score after three straight walks.
  • With the bases still loaded in the sixth, Banda singled to left field, scoring Hovda to add to the OLLU lead.
  • A two-run homerun by St. Mary's in the bottom of the sixth made it 7-6.
  • Hovda drove in two runs and Machado drove in one in the seventh to extend the Saints lead to 10-6.
  • St. Mary's scored five runs over their final three at-bats to earn the walk-off win.
