OLLU Baseball Opens Season With Split Against Wayland Baptist

San Antonio, Texas- Our Lady of the Lake baseball split a two-game series with Wayland Baptist, earning a 4–2 win in the opener before falling 3–1 in game two, as pitching and defense played key roles throughout the day.

In game one, the Saints used timely hitting and strong pitching to secure the victory. OLLU finished with nine hits and capitalized on scoring opportunities early, while the pitching staff limited Wayland Baptist to five hits.

Drew Saucedo led the offense with a standout performance, going 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and two RBIs. Benjamin Hovda scored twice and added a double, while Jack Kalisky, Joshua Milton, Jacob Cueva, and Carlos Gusman each contributed hits as part of the balanced attack.

On the mound, Donovan Gamez earned the win after allowing two runs on four hits over five innings, striking out six while working through traffic. Xavior Salazar closed the door in relief, tossing two scoreless innings to earn the save as the Saints held off a late push from the Pioneers. Defensively, OLLU turned multiple double plays to maintain control of the game.

Game two proved to be a tightly contested pitching duel, but Wayland Baptist edged the Saints 3–1. OLLU collected six hits and drew four walks but was unable to generate sustained offense against Wayland starter Branin Seibert, who went the distance and did not allow an earned run.

Drew Saucedo again paced the Saints with a pair of hits, while Jack Kalisky, Carlos Gusman, Juan Garcia, and Christian Martinez also reached safely. Despite traffic on the bases, OLLU left 10 runners on and could not find the key hit to shift momentum.

On the mound, Noah Ferraro took the loss after allowing two runs in three innings. The Saints bullpen responded well, as Mason Krahn, Matthew Sanchez, and Josh Ruiz combined to limit Wayland Baptist over the final four innings, keeping the game within reach.

The Saints pick up the first win of the season and will be back in action Monday against Tabor at 12:00 PM CDT.
