Early Surge Lifts Millers Past OLLU
San Antonio, Texas- The Our Lady of the Lake Saints baseball competed with resilience but were unable to overcome an early surge from John Melvin University Millers, falling 6–2 in a nine-inning contest defined by timely extra-base hits and steady pitching.
John Melvin established momentum early, capitalizing on a first-inning home run from Teuton and consistent production throughout the lineup. The Millers tallied 14 hits on the afternoon, including multiple doubles from Pleasant, Durr, Blanchard, and Callais. Durr finished 4-for-4 with two RBIs, while Teuton added two RBIs of his own to pace the offense. Their ability to string together quality at-bats and apply pressure with five walks ultimately created separation on the scoreboard.
On the mound, B. Billingsley set the tone for John Melvin, working five innings to earn the victory while allowing just three hits and two runs, only one of them earned. Chase followed with four scoreless innings of relief to secure the win, limiting the Saints to two hits down the stretch and preserving the advantage.
For OLLU, Christian Martinez led the offense with a 2-for-4 performance and a run scored, while Jacob Cueva added two hits, including a double. Jack Kalisky drove in a run and also recorded a double, and Alex Rodriguez contributed an RBI on a sacrifice fly. The Saints generated five hits and showed discipline with three walks but were unable to consistently convert opportunities, leaving nine runners on base.
Defensively, OLLU turned multiple double plays, with strong infield coordination from Cueva, Kalisky, Atkinson, and Rodriguez helping to limit additional damage. Nolan Nicholson provided an encouraging outing in relief, striking out seven over 2.1 scoreless innings to stabilize the game late.
Despite the setback, the Saints displayed competitive focus and flashes of offensive potential. The Saints will be back in action Tuesday against Texas Lutheran away at 6:00 PM CDT.
