Men's Golf Opens 2024 Spring Season Feb. 19

SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 13, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's golf program will begin its 2024 season on Feb. 19. The men's team will compete in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC).

2022-2023 season overview

The men finished as runner's up in the RRAC and also was named an NAIA Scholar Team.

2023 fall schedule

The Saints played a few events during the fall. The men were runners-up in the John Bohmann Invitational at Texas Lutheran University (TLU), and junior Oliver Gaisford tied for first place. The Saints finished fifth in the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) Fall Classic. 

2024 spring schedule

The men's team opens its season Feb. 19-20 at the San Antonio Shootout, sponsored by Schreiner University, at TPC San Antonio. The Saints will join the women at the Claud Jacobs Invitational and the Schreiner Invitational. They will head out to Laughlin, Nev., for the Battle at Laughlin Ranch March 25-26. The men will again join the women at the Texas Wesleyan Invitational. The conference tournament takes place April 29-30 and will be hosted by UHV. The men's national tournament will take place May 21-24 in Georgia.

Newcomers

Newcomers include freshmen Ethan Aleman from San Antonio, Jake Casias from Poteet, Texas, Alex Marshall from Bath, England, and Luke Thornton from Pleasanton.

Returners

Sophomores returning for the men are Victor Peña Cortez and Ozil Salinas. Returning juniors are Joshua Brook and Oliver Gaisford. Seniors include Matthew Cantu, Massimo Garcia and Sergio Garcia.

Staff

Head Coach Arnie Martinez is in his fifth season with the Saints. We are glad to add Jake Stevenson as assistant coach. He joined us last month in January and comes from UIW, where he was the interim head coach in 2022."

Academic success

The men earned NAIA Scholar Team recognition, finishing with a 3.17 GPA. Martinez said, "We are always pushing to grow young men to be functional members of society, and part of that is academic success."
