Hobbs, NM- The Our Lady of the Lake University men's soccer team showed relentless determination in a thrilling 3-3 draw against the Southwest New Mexico Mustangs on Thursday evening. Though the match ended even, the Saints made a statement with their attacking prowess led by a standout performance from Nicolas Murgas, who singlehandedly carried the scoring load for OLLU.

Murgas wasted no time making his presence felt, finding the back of the net in the 14th minute after capitalizing on a defensive lapse by the Mustangs. His sharp instincts and confident finish set the tone early, giving the Saints the momentum they needed. Southwest managed to equalize later in the first half, but OLLU remained composed and hungry for more.

In the 38th minute, Murgas struck again. The forward showed his technical brilliance and composure under pressure, weaving through defenders before burying his second goal to restore the Saints lead. His energy on the pitch and nose for goal kept the Mustangs defense on edge throughout the night.

Coming out of halftime, OLLU continued to press. Just nine minutes into the second half, Murgas completed his hat trick at the 54:17 mark, firing home a blistering shot that left the Mustang goalkeeper frozen. The Saints bench erupted, and OLLU looked firmly in control.

However, Southwest refused to back down, clawing back with two second-half goals to even the score at 3-3 in the 63rd minute. Despite the Mustangs surge, the Saints defense and goalkeeper Zak Averns battled fiercely to preserve the draw. Averns finished with four crucial saves, denying multiple close-range chances and keeping OLLU in the match.

Though the Saints were outshot 14-10, their efficiency and creativity in the final third stood out. Every OLLU player contributed to a relentless effort that showed the team's resilience and chemistry.

The Saints now turn their focus to a road matchup this weekend against Texas College. With Murgas in red-hot form and the team displaying strong cohesion on both ends of the field, OLLU will look to turn their determination into a victory and keep their momentum building as the season progresses.
