Late Goal Lifts NAU Past OLLU in Tight Match

San Antonio, Texas- The OLLU men's soccer team battled with heart and intensity but fell just short in a narrow 3–2 loss to the North American University Stallions. Despite the final scoreline, the Saints kept the pressure on and refused to back down against a physical and opportunistic NAU side.

The first half saw both teams trade chances as OLLU built through the midfield with confidence. Alessandro Sierra and Cade Ryan led several dangerous attacking runs, testing the Stallions back line. Goalkeeper Carson Burkhalter stood tall early, making key saves to keep the match level. However, at the 41st minute, NAU broke through with a close-range finish to take a 1–0 lead into halftime.

The Saints came out firing after the break. Just three minutes into the second half, at 48:32, Alessandro Sierra delivered the equalizer, slotting a composed shot to make it 1–1. The momentum shifted squarely in OLLU's favor, and by the 63rd minute, the Saints earned a penalty after sustained pressure in the box. Cade Ryan calmly converted from the spot, giving OLLU a 2–1 lead and sparking celebrations on the sideline.

But the Stallions responded quickly. In the 67th minute, NAU was awarded a penalty of their own and converted to bring the match level again at 2–2. Both teams pressed forward in search of a winner, but the match turned in the 86th minute when NAU capitalized to take a 3–2 lead. OLLU pushed hard in the final minutes, but despite several late chances, the equalizer just wouldn't come.

Statistically, the Saints held their own, recording 14 total shots to NAU's 21. Burkhalter had a busy night in goal, facing 11 shots on target and making eight strong saves, including brilliant stops that kept OLLU in contention deep into the second half.

The Saints will be back in action Saturday against Texas A&M-Victoria.
