Bio
SHANE HURLEY began his tenure as Head Coach for the men's soccer team in 2007. The following year in 2008, he began the women's soccer program.
Hurley remained in charge of the women through 2012, while he coached the men until 2020.
He has posted a record of 150-92-22 for the men and 57-28-6 for the women and has led both teams to a combined 17 conference tournament appearances. His men's team won the conference regular season and tournament, while qualifying for nationals in 2012, and the regular-season title in 2016.
He was named interim athletic director in July 2018 and on Jan. 18, 2019, the interim title was removed and Hurley became the athletic director. He remained the head coach for the men for two more years, before devoting full time as AD. In 2023, Hurley returned to coaching the men full time.
His journey through soccer brought him to the Rio Grande Valley in 1990 when he joined the men's soccer program at legacy institution University of Texas-Pan American. He was a four-year starter, captain during his senior season, and he helped the program to some of its best seasons.
His time at UTPA really helped build his foundation to help him get to where he is at today.
Hurley was a first generation college student, on both sides of his family. He was the first on both sides to graduate with his degree and then go on to earn his master's degree.
After his collegiate playing career, he spent some time as the assistant coach for the UTPA men's soccer team as he wrapped up his degree. He played semi-professional soccer with the McAllen Excel for two seasons where he led the team to two state championships.
Hurley returned to coaching in 1996 as he joined the high school ranks leading the Harlingen High School girls' soccer team to two district titles before moving to San Antonio to coach the girls' soccer team at Clark High School where he guided them to a regional championship.
He joined the athletics department at OLLU in 2006 when the university restarted its competitive athletics program and has been a part of the growth OLLU has seen over the past several years.
