Saints Earn Key Singles Victories in Tough Week of Competition
New Orleans, LA- The Our Lady of the Lake University men's tennis team faced a challenging stretch of competition in recent matches against William Carey, Xavier University, and Dillard University. Despite several strong individual performances, the Saints were unable to secure a team victory across the three contests, showing both resilience and promise as the season progresses.
OLLU opened the series against William Carey University, where the Crusaders claimed a 4-0 team victory. In doubles action, William Carey took control early by securing wins on courts one and three. The pairing of Orynbasar and Ibragimov defeated Majsajdr and Prod'homme 6-3 on the top court, while Steinbichler and Phijidvijan earned a 6-2 victory over Bocquet and Costa on court three. The second doubles match featuring guyen and Leblanc against Gailey and Fusaro remained unfinished.
The Crusaders continued their momentum in singles play. Nguyen secured a straight-sets victory over Majsajdr at the No. 1 position, while Orynbasar defeated Costa 6-3, 6-0 on court three. Leblanc added another point with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Prod'homme at No. 4 singles, sealing the team result. Several additional singles matches were left unfinished after the clinching point was reached.
The Saints then returned home to face Xavier University of Louisiana. Xavier earned the 4-0 team win after claiming the doubles point and three completed singles matches. In doubles competition, Xavier's second and third pairings proved decisive, as Rivera and Velez defeated Bocquet and Nogueira 6-1, and Dahmany and Rosa topped Gailey and Fusaro 6-2. The top doubles match between Majsajdr and Prod'homme against Suarez and Sanchez remained unfinished.
Xavier maintained its strong form in singles play. Suarez defeated Nogueira 6-1, 6-1 at the top singles position, while Sanchez earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Majsajdr at No. 2 singles. Jebutu added another straight-sets win on court three, defeating Costa 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the match for Xavier. The remaining singles contests were halted once the team result was decided.
In the final match of the stretch, OLLU delivered its most competitive performance against Dillard University, falling narrowly by a 4-2 score. Dillard secured the early advantage by winning the doubles point, taking victories on courts one and three. The Saints responded in singles play with determined efforts across the lineup.
Majsajdr delivered one of the highlights of the match at No. 1 singles. After dropping the opening set, he battled back to win a dramatic three-set match against Salah Ibrahim, taking the final set to secure the point for OLLU. Fusaro also contributed a strong performance at No. 5 singles, defeating Kouchairi in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, to earn the Saints second point of the match.
Dillard ultimately secured the team victory with wins on courts two, three, and six. Nogueira fell to Sangheeth 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, while Costa was defeated 7-5, 7-5 by Purevdorj at the No. 3 position. On court six, Sambu earned a straight-sets win over Guimaraes to seal the match for Dillard. The fourth singles match remained unfinished after the clinching point.
While the results did not fall in OLLU's favor overall, the Saints demonstrated resilience and competitive spirit, particularly in the tightly contested matchup against Dillard. Individual victories and strong singles performances highlight the team's potential as they continue to develop and prepare for their next match against Texas A&M-Texarkana.
