Saints Men Move To No. 20 in Track and Field Rating
NEW ORLEANS (April 27, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's track and field team moved to No. 20 in the NAIA Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rating Index – Week 5 according to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Saints debuted several weeks ago in the top 25 at No. 15 for the first time in program history. They improved to No. 6, then No. 12 and last week, they were No. 17.
The team competed in the 15th Annual Cactus Cup sponsored by Texas A&M University – Kingsville on April 15. Tr'Darius Taylor placed fifth in the 100m and set a National "B" standard with his time of 10.56. He has qualified for the NAIA Nationals. Jose Zarate placed second and set an OLLU record in the 1500m with a time of 3:59.52. the 4x100m relay team of Spencer Williams, Jesus Riefkohl Delgado, Rodney Webber and Jalen Bell won the event with a time of 40.63.
On April 22, the team participated in the J Fred Duckett Twilight hosted by Rice University. Jonathan Sanchez placed fourth in the javelin throw and set a National "B" standard. He qualified for the NAIA Nationals. In addition, the 4x400m relay team of Julian Verastegui, Troy Stinson, Tr'Darius Taylor and Cerrone Thompson placed second with a time of 3:14.89.
