OLLU Softball Secures Victory Over No. 22 William Carey, Falls to No. 10 Southeastern
Gulf Shores, AL- The Our Lady of the Lake University softball team faced a challenging stretch against nationally ranked opponents, demonstrating resilience, timely hitting, and strong pitching performances.
The Saints opened the stretch on the road against No. 10 Southeastern, where they battled a dominant pitching performance but fell 1-0. Despite the loss, OLLU showed speed and smart baserunning, with Ella Brooks stealing two bases and Raylei McKinney adding a key run-scoring opportunity. Maria Zelenka, pitching for Southeastern, allowed just seven hits and struck out four, while the Saints offense, led by Lilly Rocha, Novalee Gloria, and Caitlin Casas, consistently put pressure on the opposing defense. Although the scoreboard didn't reflect a victory, OLLU's competitiveness against a top-10 program was evident in their seven-hit effort and aggressive baserunning.
Returning to conference play, the Saints earned a 4-2 victory over No. 22 William Carey, showcasing a balanced offensive attack and clutch pitching. Arianna Alejandro led the way with two hits and an RBI, while Lilly Rocha, Yezenia Perez, and Alyssa Guzman each contributed key hits and RBIs that turned the game in OLLU's favor. Pitching was a decisive factor, with Annika Litterio striking out two over five innings and Valeria Vielma closing out the final two innings to secure the win. Strategic baserunning by Alejandro and Caitlin Casas helped the Saints capitalize on scoring opportunities, and the team's defensive effort limited William Carey's threats despite their powerful lineup.
The Saints will be back in action against St. Ambrose (IA) tomorrow at 11:15 AM CDT.
