OLLU’s Historic Season Ends With Third-Place Finish At NAIA World Series
Columbus, Georgia- Our Lady of the Lake's historic postseason run came to a close at the NAIA Softball World Series as the Saints fell to Southeastern, 3-0, finishing the season as the third-place team in the nation.
Despite the loss, OLLU concluded one of the most successful campaigns in program history with a 47-13 overall record and a 22-5 mark in conference play. The Saints captured both the conference championship and the regional championship before advancing deep into the national tournament and emerging as one of the final three teams remaining in the NAIA Softball World Series.
The matchup against Southeastern featured two strong pitching staffs and limited offensive opportunities throughout the afternoon. Southeastern capitalized on key situations early, while the Saints continued battling until the final out.
Annika Litterio started in the circle for OLLU and recorded two strikeouts over three innings of work. Valeria Vielma entered in relief and helped keep the Saints within reach, allowing just one run across the final three innings. Defensively, OLLU also turned two double plays, highlighted by strong infield work from Caitlin Casas and Yezenia Perez.
Offensively, the Saints faced a challenge against Southeastern pitcher Maria Zelenka, who limited OLLU to two hits across seven innings. Arianna Alejandro recorded a hit and a walk from the leadoff spot, while Boston Tijerina added a pinch-hit single late in the game to provide a spark offensively.
Although the Saints were unable to generate a comeback, the effort throughout the postseason reflected the consistency and resilience that defined the team all year. OLLU advanced through both conference and regional competition before earning multiple victories on the national stage to secure a top-three finish in the country.
Throughout the season, the Saints established themselves as one of the premier programs in NAIA softball. Their 47 victories were fueled by balanced pitching, disciplined defense, timely hitting, and strong leadership across the roster. The team consistently responded to challenges and proved capable of competing with the top programs in the nation.
Reaching the final three of the NAIA Softball World Series marked another significant achievement for the program and capped a season filled with milestones. From winning conference and regional championships to competing on the national stage in Columbus, the Saints delivered a season that will remain one of the strongest in school history.
