OLLU Shows Fight in Tough 64–55 Loss to Haskell

San Antonio, Texas- The Our Lady of the Lake University women's basketball battled through a hard-fought contest but came up short against Haskell University, falling 64–55 in a game that featured 14 lead changes and four ties. Despite a strong rebounding effort and several standout performances, the Saints couldn't overcome cold shooting from the perimeter and struggles at the free-throw line.

The Saints nearly matched Haskell in every major statistical category, outrebounding Haskell 50–49 and matching their defensive energy throughout the night. However, OLLU shot just 31.7 percent from the field and 19.2 percent from three-point range while leaving crucial points at the line, converting only 10 of 24 free throws.

Zariah Todd led the Saints with 14 points, knocking down three triples and adding six rebounds and three assists in a determined effort. Shayla Dede followed with nine points and four boards, while forward Alexandra Westerdijk Martin recorded an impressive double-double with six points and 13 rebounds, anchoring OLLU's interior presence.

Evangeline Hernandez provided eight points, four rebounds, and three steals while continuing to be a key defensive force on the perimeter. Samantha Fields added five points, and freshman guard Alex Morales came off the bench to contribute five points and a steal.

For Haskell, Ivy Fox and Tierzah Penn both tallied 16 points to lead their team, combining for 12 rebounds and providing timely baskets in the second half. Haskell's outside shooting and efficiency at the free-throw line helped them pull away late, outscoring OLLU 11–5 in fast-break points and maintaining their composure down the stretch.

While the Saints edged Haskell in total rebounds and second-chance points (13–11), turnovers and missed opportunities proved costly. OLLU's 18 turnovers led to 13 points for Haskell, while the Saints managed just nine points off turnovers in return.

Despite the loss, OLLU's defensive intensity and effort on the boards were bright spots. The team's fight until the final buzzer reflected the Saints trademark grit and determination, qualities they'll look to build on heading into their next matchup against Huston-Tillotson on Wednesday at 6:00 PM CDT away.
