Saints Fall in Overtime Heartbreaker to Texas A&M–San Antonio

San Antonio, Texas- The game felt like one OLLU should have had, one they fought for possession by possession, only to watch slip away in the final moments of overtime against Texas A&M–San Antonio. Despite the 59–67 loss, the Saints played with discipline and heart that repeatedly pushed the Jaguars out of rhythm. Every run Texas A&M–San Antonio tried to build was met with a timely response, a defensive stand, or a momentum-shifting rebound from a Saints roster that refused to fold.

Shayla Dede was the engine that kept OLLU alive deep into the extra period. Playing a remarkable 42 minutes, she delivered 17 points, seven rebounds, and five steals, controlling stretches of the game on both ends. When the Saints needed a basket, Dede attacked confidently; when they needed a stop, she was the one jumping passing lanes and disrupting possessions.

Alexandra Westerdijk Martin was equally vital. Her presence on the boards steadied OLLU throughout the night, as she hauled in 12 rebounds to go with 13 points. Whether muscling for offensive rebounds or closing out defensive stands, she helped keep the Saints competitive even as the Jaguars tried to impose their size. Isabella Jaramillo provided an important spark off the bench, adding 11 points with efficient shooting that steadied OLLU during tense stretches.

Though the Saints shot just 31 percent from the field, their defensive energy kept them within reach from start to finish. They forced 21 Jaguar turnovers, several during crucial stretches of the fourth quarter that fueled OLLU's push into overtime. The Saints held Texas A&M–San Antonio to only 25.7 percent shooting, an impressive feat in a game that demanded every ounce of concentration and resilience.

In overtime, the Jaguars leaned heavily on free-throw opportunities and second-chance rebounds, OLLU created looks that simply refused to fall. Still, the Saints continued to defend with pride, contesting shots and the Jaguars work for every point. Even as the Jaguars built a small cushion, OLLU stayed within striking distance until the final horn.

Despite the loss, the story of the night was the Saints competitiveness. They battled a rival to the wire, outrebounded and outshot them from the field, and showed the kind of resolve that defines a team capable of growing stronger from adversity. The Saints will look ahead to Thursday as they take on Southwest at 5:30 PM CDT.
