OLLU Women Show Fight Despite Tough Shooting Night

San Antonio, Texas- Our Lady of the Lake showed resilience and competitive spirit throughout its matchup against LSU Alexandria, battling for all 40 minutes despite a challenging shooting night. The Saints stayed within striking distance for much of the contest, relying on effort, defensive pressure, and trips to the free-throw line to keep pace.

Shayla Dede led OLLU with a composed all-around performance, finishing with 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals while converting all six of her free-throw attempts. Her ability to attack the basket and create opportunities was a consistent bright spot and kept the Saints anchored offensively. Samantha Fields and Evangeline Hernandez each added eight points, with Hernandez also contributing three assists and two steals off the bench, providing valuable energy and playmaking.

OLLU's defense created problems at times, forcing 18 LSUA turnovers and recording nine steals overall. The Saints also competed on the glass, particularly on the offensive end, generating second-chance opportunities that helped offset shooting struggles from the field. Amya Miller-Singleton was efficient in limited minutes, scoring seven points on 3-of-4 shooting while adding two steals and three rebounds.

While LSU Alexandria capitalized on efficient shooting performances from Reese Stephens and Kelly Norris, OLLU continued to fight through missed shots and foul trouble. The Saints got to the free-throw line 22 times, converting 15, which played a key role in keeping the game close late into the fourth quarter.

Though the final score did not swing in OLLU's favor, the effort, defensive intensity, and individual performances reflected a team that competed with determination and discipline. The Saints will look to build on these positives as they continue their season, confident that their defensive pressure and balanced contributions can translate into future success. The Saints will be back in action Saturday against Louisiana Christian at 1:00 PM CDT. It will be Youth Day at Mabee Gymnasium.
