Four Saints Finish In Top 15 and Team Placed Second in Legends Cup
KINGSLAND, TEXAS (Oct. 1, 2024) – Four members of the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's golf team finished in the top 15 of the player leaderboard, while the team placed second overall at the Texas Legends Cup sponsored by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB). All universities participating were NCAA D3, except OLLU.
Head Coach Arnie Martinez expressed his satisfaction saying, "I am very happy with how our women played. For our first event, our women came out and shot some good scores to earn second place. Legends Golf Course is a great test of golf. We've known the potential of this group, and it's good to see them get started on a positive note. As always, we have things to improve on, but there was a lot done right at this event. Congrats to Annabelle Reyna, Kendall Ward, Ceci Lattuada and Grayson Weiler for all finishing inside the top 15. I'm looking forward to the future. Go Saints!"
The Saints placed second in the two-round tournament behind UMHB (604) with a score of 620. They are followed by Hardin-Simmons University at 622, UMHB (B) at 633, East Texas Baptist University at 635, Southwestern University at 638, Schreiner University at 661, Millsaps University at 665, and McMurry University at 690.
Kendall Ward led the Saints with a 79/75=154, and Annabelle Reyna marked a 75/79=154 for a seventh-place tie. Ceci Lattuada scored 78/77=155 for 11th place. Grayson Weiler finished at 78/79=157 for 15th place. Alexis Calzada finished at 85/83=168, and Samantha Garcia (playing independently) scored 81/90=171.
What's next
The Saints will next compete in the University of Houston-Victoria Fall Classic on Oct. 20-22 at the Colony Creek Country Club in Victoria, Texas. It's worth noting that the Saints emerged victorious in this tournament last year, and Kendall Ward finished in first place, narrowly missing out on the individual championship in a playoff. This history of success makes the Saints all the more eager and excited for the upcoming event.
