Saints Strike Fast, Finish Strong in 3-1 Masterclass

Waxahachie, Texas – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's soccer team delivered a commanding performance on Saturday evening, defeating Nelson University (Texas) 3-1. The Saints outshot Nelson 19-1 in a game that showcased their control, precision, and attacking prowess.

OLLU wasted no time asserting its dominance. Just under six minutes into the match, forward Eleonora Diversi found the back of the net, giving the Saints an early 1-0 lead. The goal, scored at 5:58, set the tone for the rest of the match as OLLU kept Nelson on their heels with relentless offensive pressure.

Despite the lopsided shot total, Nelson managed to capitalize on their lone opportunity of the night. At 18:41, Azucena Garcia scored the equalizer, briefly halting OLLU's momentum. However, the Saints didn't let the setback rattle them and continued to push forward, maintaining control of possession and tempo.

The match remained deadlocked through halftime, but the Saints patience paid off in the second half. In the 61st minute, sophomore midfielder Lead Tapia broke the tie with a well-placed finish off an assist from Gabrielle Deleon. The goal at 60:19 reignited the Saints offense and marked Tapia's first of the season.

OLLU continued to dominate, racking up 10 shots on goal compared to Nelson's single attempt. As the clock wound down, Diversi sealed the win with her second goal of the night. Her strike at 89:44 was the final touch on an emphatic performance by the Saints, who improved their season record to 3-1-1.

Corner kicks were even at three apiece, but the stats tell a clear story of OLLU's superiority throughout the match. The Saints controlled the midfield, applied consistent pressure in the attacking third, and gave up almost nothing defensively.

OLLU now looks ahead to a tough road matchup against Southwestern University on Thursday, September 19, with kickoff set for 7:00 PM CDT. With momentum building and a growing sense of cohesion, the Saints will be aiming to extend their wins to four games and continue climbing in the standings.
