Saints Dominate Mustangs On The Road In One Sided Affair

Hobbs, NM- The Our Lady of the Lake University women's soccer team delivered a commanding performance on Thursday evening, overwhelming the Southwest New Mexico Mustangs with a 5-1 victory that showcased the Saints offensive depth and relentless energy. From the opening whistle, OLLU made it clear they came to dominate.

The fireworks started almost instantly when Grace Reed struck just 20 seconds into the match, capitalizing on a sharp assist from Eleonora Diversi to give OLLU the early lead. The Saints attack didn't let up, and it was Diversi again setting up another goal in the 28th minute, this time finding Miya Haehnel, who slotted home a precise finish to make it 2-0.

Barely two minutes later, OLLU struck again. Monica Sanchez buried the Saints third goal of the match at the 30:16 mark after a clever pass from Leah Tapia. The precision and chemistry of the Saints midfield kept the Mustangs chasing shadows, as OLLU dictated the tempo and owned possession throughout the first half.

The Mustangs tried to push back in the second half, but the Saints defensive line stayed composed, and the goalkeepers stood tall. London Suarez played the first 34 minutes without allowing a single goal, commanding her box with poise and confidence. Salka Hrafns took over in goal for the remainder of the match, allowing just one goal while turning away several strong Mustang chances.

Even with Southwest showing brief moments of resistance, OLLU continued to press and create opportunities. In the 20th minute of the second half, Katherine Delgadillo added to the Saints tally, finishing off a well-placed assist from Hannah Brookfield. Then, to put an exclamation mark on the victory, Brookfield herself found the back of the net in the 81st minute, finishing a beautiful setup from Diversi, her third assist of the night.

The Saints outshot Southwest 24-15 and forced the Mustangs goalkeeper into 11 saves, while OLLU's keepers combined for 10 of their own. Every line of the field contributed, from the midfield's distribution to the defense's composure and the attackers ruthless finishing.

With this statement win, OLLU continues to build momentum as they look ahead to their next match on Saturday against Texas College. If Thursday's performance is any indication, the Saints are hitting their stride at the perfect time of the season and they'll be eager to keep that energy rolling into the weekend.
