SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 27, 2022) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball team won two out of four matches during the San Antonio ShinDig tournament. The Saints defeated Friends University (FU) and Loyola University of New Orleans (LUNO). They lost to Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) and Westcliff University (WU) to move to 3-3 overall on the season.

Match one vs. Friends University

History

The Saints are 1-1 against the Falcons in series history.

Basics

OLLU started the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Friends. The Saints won the first set 25-21 behind 13 kills and a .219 hitting percentage. The Falcons were able to bounce back and take the second set 25-17. The Saints made costly errors down the stretch of the second frame to allow Friends to even the match. The Saints dominated the third set backed by six kills. OLLU finished off the match with a 25-20 fourth set victory.

Freshman Lauren Reynard posted a .625 hitting percentage and Mia Dorsey added 13 kills. Reynard also had a team-high 27 assists.

In the third set, OLLU recorded six kills and three errors on 26 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .115.

OLLU had a total of 58 digs, led by Tina Trevino with 15. Antonia Perier tallied 22 digs for the Falcons.

Serving it up

Reynard and Dorsey had three service aces each for the Saints. Rachel Taylor had three aces for Friends.

Match two vs. Southwestern Assemblies of God University

History

The Saints are 10-8 against the Lions in series history.

Basics

The Saints battled but lost a five-set thriller against SAGU. The Lions took the first set 25-20 behind nine kills. The Saints were able to rebound and took both the second and third set. The third set went the distance with Dorsey ending it with a kill assisted by Trevino. SAGU forced a fifth and deciding set after taking the fourth frame 25-14. The Saints led 8-7 in the final set but ended up losing 15-11. The Saints had a .250 hitting percentage in the final set despite losing.

Match three vs. Loyola University New Orleans

History

The Saints are 1-1 against the Wolf Pack in series history.

Basics

The Saints started Saturday with a win over Loyola. OLLU hit over .200 hitting percentage for three of the four sets. They also didn't allow the Wolf Pack to record a hitting percentage over .200. Three Saints totaled double-digit kills and the Saints committed only 20 errors. Camila Ramirez totaled 13 kills and 25 total attacks.

Match four vs. Westcliff University

History

This was the first meeting between the two programs.

Basics

OLLU lost a close match against the Warriors to close the tournament. The Warriors took the first set, but the Saints battled back to win a wild 31-29 second set. Westcliff was able to win the third set 25-17 and close the match 25-19 in the fourth. Ramirez had a .333 hitting percentage for the Saints and had 14 kills. Dorsey also finished with double-digit kills with 10.
