OLLU Volleyball Downs Paul Quinn College For First Conference Victory

SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 9, 2022) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball team defeated Paul Quinn College (PQC) 3-1 on Friday night to open Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play. The Saints improve to 4-3 overall while the Tigers drop to 0-5.

History

The Saints were 5-0 against the Tigers prior to the match.

Basics

The Saints were challenged in a four-set victory on Friday night. They started strong with a 25-13 win in the first set. Freshman Mia Dorsey came up with two big kills late in the first frame to seal a 1-0 advantage. The Tigers stormed back in the second set with 14 kills and only four errors. The Saints committed seven errors in the second set and the match went to the third frame tied 1-1. Both teams struggled in the third set with multiple errors, but the Saints held strong and led 2-1. OLLU finished strong with 18 kills in the fourth set, marking the most in any of the sets on Friday. Three Saints players had double-digit kills and OLLU tallied nine service aces.

In the first set, OLLU recorded 11 kills and five errors on 35 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .171.

The Saints had 14 kills in the second set and seven errors on 36 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .194.

In the third set, OLLU recorded 11 kills and nine errors on 36 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .056.

The Saints had 18 kills in the fourth set and nine errors on 48 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .188.

On the offense

Overall, the Saints had 54 kills for a hitting percentage of .155. Paul Quinn totaled 35 kills for a hitting percentage of .065.

Dorsey led the Saints with 13 kills. Shelbriana Myers totaled a team-high 12 kills for the Tigers.

Rebekah Bustamante assisted on 49 plays for the Saints while Jayda Trinidad tallied 29 assists for Paul Quinn.

Defensive standouts

OLLU had a total of 72 digs, led by Tina Trevino with 18. Kennadi Harris tallied 14 digs for the Tigers.

Serving it up

Tijana Kruta had four service aces for the Saints. Tanieya Foster had the lone service ace for Paul Quinn.
