Victoria, Texas- The Our Lady of the Lake University men's soccer team showed incredible resilience and determination in their 2-2 draw against Texas A&M University–Victoria, refusing to back down despite being heavily outshot and facing a relentless offensive attack.
From the opening whistle, the Jaguars applied constant pressure, but OLLU goalkeeper Zak Averns stood tall between the posts, turning away shot after shot. Averns finished the match with an impressive nine saves against eleven shots on goal, anchoring the Saints defense and keeping them within reach throughout the contest. Texas A&M–Victoria found the net twice in the first half, scoring at the 11:43 and 44:28 marks, putting OLLU in a tough position heading into halftime.
Despite the deficit, the Saints refused to quit. OLLU dug deep late in the second half, showing grit and heart. The breakthrough came at the 81:11 mark when Daniel Short buried a shot into the back of the net off an assist from Jared Garibay, cutting the Jaguars lead in half and reigniting the Saints energy. Just over three minutes later, Nicolas Murgas produced a moment of brilliance, scoring an unassisted goal at 84:36 to level the match at 2-2 and stun the home crowd.
