OLLU Men’s Tennis Battles Among the Nation’s Best at ITA Indoors

Rome, Georgia- Competing against three nationally respected programs at the ITA Indoor Nationals, the Our Lady of the Lake University men's tennis team demonstrated resilience, depth, and championship character across a demanding slate that featured matchups with Keiser University, Lindsey Wilson College, and Holy Cross College/Notre Dame. Though the final results did not fully reflect the Saints level of play, OLLU's performance underscored a program capable of competing on the national stage.

The tournament opened with a formidable test against Keiser. In doubles play, Corentin Fusaro and Jacob Gailey battled at the No. 1 position, while Jaroslav Majsajdr and Matis Nuziere took the court at No. 2. Despite falling in both contests, the Saints competed aggressively at the net and forced extended rallies against a seasoned Seahawks lineup. At No. 3 doubles, Bastien Prod'homme and Eliott Costa were locked in a tightly contested match at 5–5 before an abrupt retirement halted momentum, signaling the physical grind that would define much of the weekend.

Singles competition against Keiser further highlighted OLLU's fight. Gabriel Nogueira and Majsajdr faced high-level opposition at the top of the lineup, battling through long exchanges against nationally ranked talent. Prod'homme, Costa, and Nuziere each saw their matches cut short due to retirement after fiercely competitive stretches of play. Even in defeat, the Saints showed resolve, pushing points deep into rallies and refusing to yield momentum easily.

Against Lindsey Wilson, OLLU again met a disciplined opponent. The Saints earned a key doubles victory at No. 2, where Majsajdr and Nuziere secured a 6–4 win with composed serving and decisive finishing at the net. While the other doubles courts tilted in Lindsey Wilson's favor, OLLU carried energy into singles play.

Costa delivered one of the Saints strongest performances of the day, surging to a commanding first-set win at No. 5 before his match concluded prematurely. Nuziere also captured a set at No. 6 in a gritty, back-and-forth contest. Prod'homme pushed his opponent in a tightly contested battle at No. 3 singles, and Majsajdr engaged in a physical three-set struggle at No. 2 before retirement ended the match. Throughout the lineup, OLLU demonstrated its ability to compete point-for-point with one of the NAIA's most consistent programs.

The Saints closed their ITA Indoor Nationals campaign with perhaps their most complete performance against Holy Cross College-Notre Dame. After dropping the top two doubles courts in competitive fashion, including a narrow 7–6(9–7) decision at No. 2, Costa and Prod'homme responded emphatically with a 6–2 victory at No. 3, showcasing chemistry and controlled aggression to keep the Saints within striking distance.

Singles play proved to be a statement of depth and determination. Majsajdr delivered a dominant 6–2, 6–1 victory at No. 2, dictating tempo from the baseline and capitalizing on short balls with precision. Fusaro followed with an impressive straight-sets win at No. 4, demonstrating consistency and tactical discipline. Costa added another signature moment at No. 5, rallying for a 7–6, 6–4 victory in a match defined by clutch serving under pressure. At No. 6, Gailey battled through three demanding sets, rebounding after a second-set setback to secure a 6–0, 3–6, 6–3 triumph that embodied the team's resilience.

Even in tightly contested losses at the top of the lineup, Nogueira and Prod'homme competed with poise against experienced opposition, extending rallies and forcing opponents to earn every game. The Saints collective effort against Holy Cross reflected growth across the roster and the competitive maturity required at a national championship event.

Coach Ross Marzetti commented,

"The team competed their hearts out all weekend but it wasn't quite enough. It is a long season and we are only going to be better from this trip as we see we are right there with the best in the Nation. It's just a few points here and there that were the difference and if we are a little better on the big points in the big moments the results will fall our way. It was a great experience and exposure for the 3 freshmen that were in our starting lineup, they will be much better for it moving forwards. We really saw the importance of the doubles point in our last two matches where if we are able to take our chances we come out on the other side of the result. Bastien Prod'homme and Eliott Costa both had standout performances vs #1 Keiser in both doubles and singles. Eliott up a set and break, Bastien up a set and on serve before Keiser clinched, would've been great for them if they're able to finish those matches to completion. Against #5 Lindsey Wilson Matis and Jaroslav had a solid performance at 2 doubles, and we couldn't capitalize on a lot of chances at the 3 spot, losing the majority of Duece points. Jaroslav and Matis were up a break in third sets and Eliott up a set and 5-5 when they clinched. Our last match versus #6 Holy Cross, again we had chances to take the doubles point narrowly missing on two set points on court 2. We got off to a great start in singles bouncing back by taking first sets on 5 out of 6 courts. We got wins  from Majsajdr, Fusaro, and Acosta at 2,4,5. Jacob Gailey stepped into the lineup after Matis came out injured and battled losing 6-7 (13-15) in the third after having 5 match points in a nail-biter. It came down to Prod'homme on court 3 who had chances in the third set but eventually was the wrong side of a result. Overall I am really proud of this group, we cannot control winning and losing but they did a great job of controlling the controllables. All weekend they brought great attitudes, effort, energy, and support. We learn from this and go back to the drawing board to work on a few specifics before our upcoming trip to compete with some more top NAIA teams in New Orleans March 5-8."

Across three matches in a high-caliber field, Our Lady of the Lake University proved it belongs among the nation's elite. The Saints will now continue its outdoor play in hopes of an NAIA national tournament in the near future.
