Saints Battle but Come Up Short Against Jaguars

San Antonio, Texas- Our Lady of the Lake women's basketball battled throughout the afternoon but ultimately fell to Texas A&M University–San Antonio, 67–51, as turnovers and second-half execution proved costly.

The Saints struggled to find a consistent offensive rhythm, shooting 35.4 percent from the field, but were able to stay competitive early behind strong interior play and perimeter shooting. Macie Smith led OLLU with 15 points, knocking down three three-pointers and adding eight rebounds. Alexandra Westerdijk Martin delivered an efficient performance, scoring 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting while pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds for a double-double.

Defensively, OLLU showed flashes of pressure, recording 12 steals, with Evangeline Hernandez providing a spark off the bench with five steals, seven points and three assists. Shayla Dede helped facilitate the offense with three assists, but the Saints were hampered by 30 turnovers, which TAMUSA converted into key scoring opportunities. Texas A&M–San Antonio capitalized on those mistakes and shot 45.6 percent from the field, pulling away in the second half.

OLLU outrebounded TAMUSA 41–24 and shot an impressive 85.7 percent from the free-throw line, but could not overcome the disparity in ball security and overall shot efficiency. Despite the loss, the Saints showed resilience and effort across the lineup, with contributions from both starters and reserves as they continue to build toward improvement in conference play. The Saints will be back in action Thursday at home at 5:30 PM CDT against LSUA.
