Despite Outshooting the Wildcats, the Saints End Their Season With A Loss

PINEVILLE, LA. (Nov. 8, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's soccer team completed its season with a loss to Louisiana Christian University (LCU) 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the Red River Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. The Saints finish with an 8-7-2 overall record and 7-5-1 in conference. The Wildcats will continue to the semifinals with an overall record of 13-4-2 and 11-1-1 in conference.

Head Coach Lee Williams commented, "Congratulations to LCU, and we wish them the best of luck in the semifinals. They worked really hard to win this game. In the first half, we were relentless and if the score had been two or three, no one could have argued. But we went into the half time 1-0 and maybe we were a little too comfortable. In the second half, we had a couple of lapses in focus that gifted them their goals. We talked about the first five minutes a lot so to give up a goal so early in the second half really gave them the belief they could win the game. Again, credit to them; they defended well. We had 14 corner kicks in the game, and we could have capitalized on any of them. We have worked on set pieces a lot this year, but we need to be better next year. We spoke about set pieces that could have been the difference between winning or losing the game, and it looked like that came to fruition. I'm so proud of these tremendous young women. They have played their heart and soul, and I wish I could have delivered what they worked so hard for. I'm really excited to see what this group can do next year. Thank you to everyone who drove all over Texas, Louisiana and New Mexico to support us. We love you all. Be a Saint!
