Saints Extend Win Streak to Five in Record-Setting 8–0 Rout of Texas College
San Antonio, Texas- The Our Lady of the Lake University women's soccer team put on a dominant display on Wednesday afternoon, crushing Texas College 8-0 in a one-sided match that showcased the Saints offensive firepower and defensive control from start to finish.
From the opening whistle, OLLU dictated the pace of play despite strong winds that challenged both teams. The Saints poured on relentless pressure, outshooting the Steers by an astonishing 55-1 margin and placing 28 shots on goal, setting a new school record and moving up to fifth all-time for most shots in a single game. Texas College rarely crossed midfield, and when they did, OLLU goalkeeper London Suarez stood tall. Playing all 90 minutes, Suarez faced just one shot all match and calmly made the save to preserve the clean sheet.
The breakthrough came in the 27th minute when Eleonora Diversi confidently buried a penalty kick to put OLLU ahead 1-0. As halftime approached, the Saints exploded with two quick goals, Sara Garza found the net at 44:29 off a crisp assist from Leah Tapia, and just seconds later, Hannah Brookfield capitalized on a setup from Diversi to make it 3-0 before the break.
The Saints picked up right where they left off in the second half. Shante Chacon struck in the 55th minute near midfield after a smooth pass from Tapia, and less than a minute later, Monica Sanchez added another to stretch the lead to 5-0. OLLU continued to attack with precision and confidence, with Tapia adding a goal of her own in the 62nd minute, assisted by Sanchez. Sanchez then netted her second of the day at 73:07, and Jaslyn Orozco capped the scoring with an unassisted strike in the 78th minute.
OLLU also dominated on set pieces, earning 10 corner kicks while completely shutting Texas College out in that category. The Saints relentless energy and discipline ensured there was never any doubt about the outcome.
With the win, OLLU not only adds another clean sheet to their record but also builds valuable momentum heading into their next matchup. The Saints return to action Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for Senior Day, where they'll face cross-town rival Texas A&M–San Antonio in what promises to be an emotional and competitive match.
