Women’s Team Wraps Up 2025 Season with Narrow Loss

Texarkana, Texas- The Our Lady of the Lake University's women's soccer team fought hard but came up just short in a 3–2 loss to Xavier on Monday in the RRAC tournament. Despite a strong second-half rally and several standout performances, the Saints were unable to overcome an early deficit.

Xavier opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Anita Roese converted a pass from Samira Roper, giving the visitors an early lead. The pressure continued throughout the first half, and Xavier found the net again in the 33rd minute as Roper scored off an assist from Shakiana Dagher. The Saints struggled to find their rhythm in the opening 45 minutes, managing only a few looks at goal as Xavier controlled much of the possession.

Coming out of halftime, OLLU responded immediately. Just over a minute into the second period, Grace Reed cut the deficit in half with a calm finish after a setup from Monica Sanchez. The goal gave the Saints new life and shifted the momentum, leading to a more physical and fast-paced second half. OLLU goalkeeper London Suarez kept her team in the match with several key saves, finishing the game with 12 stops on 15 shots on target.

Xavier extended its lead again in the 74th minute when Lea Cordier scored from distance to make it 3–1. The Saints refused to give up and continued pressing forward. Their persistence paid off in the 84th minute, when Sara Garza came off the bench to score off an assist from Eleonora Diversi, bringing OLLU within one goal. The Saints pushed for an equalizer in the closing minutes, but Xavier's defense held firm to secure the 3–2 win.

Reed and Garza provided the scoring for OLLU, while Sanchez and Diversi each recorded assists. Suarez's 12 saves kept the Saints in contention throughout the match. OLLU totaled 11 shots, three of which were on target, while Xavier recorded 23 shots and 17 on goal.

Shante Chacon and Gabi DeLeon both made the RRAC Women's Soccer All-Tournament team.

With the loss OLLU finishes 12-5-2 on the season and 8-2-1 in the conference, this marks the best finish in five years for the Saints.
