OLLU Women’s Soccer Dominates LSU-Alexandria in Commanding 2-0 Victory
San Antonio, Texas- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) Saints delivered a dominant performance against the LSU-Alexandria Generals, walking away with a well-earned 2-0 victory in a match that showcased complete control, technical excellence, and relentless offensive pressure.
From the opening whistle, OLLU asserted itself as the superior side. The Saints tallied a staggering 30 shots to the Generals 3, dictating the pace and tone of the match. It was clear early on that the Saints were hungry for a statement win, and they wasted no time making their presence felt.
Leah Tapia opened the scoring in the 20th minute, capitalizing on a crisp assist from Gabrielle DeLeon. Tapia timed it perfectly, receiving DeLeon's threaded pass through the LSU-A backline and calmly slotting the ball past the Generals goalkeeper.
OLLU continued to pile on the pressure, winning 6 corners compared to LSU-A's 4, and pinning the Generals in their defensive third for much of the half. The Saints constant threat paid off again in the 36th minute, when Eleonora Diversi found the back of the net. The goal came from a clever setup by Vivianna Gutierrez, whose assist found Diversi in space just inside the box. With poise and power, Diversi put the ball in the back of the net, leaving no chance for the keeper.
While the scoreline read 2-0, it could have easily been much more if not for the valiant effort by LSU-Alexandria's team, who recorded 15 saves under an unrelenting barrage of OLLU shots. The goalkeepers performance kept the Generals in the game, but OLLU's dominance in possession and opportunities left little doubt about which team controlled the match.
Defensively, the Saints were rock-solid. London Suarez was calm and composed between the posts, playing a full 90 minutes and needing to make just one save. LSU-A managed only a single shot on target, a credit to OLLU's disciplined coaching, the teams communication and organized back line.
With this win, OLLU continues to build momentum. The Saints will take on Xavier in a conference matchup on Saturday at 1:00 PM CDT. It will be youth day, as well as a pink out for Breast Cancer Awareness month.
